September 1 — Today at 2:00 p.m. UTSA from the WAC will play USA of the Sun Belt in Mobile, AL at Ladd Memorial Stadium. Why is this a big game? Both teams will be playing their first game as new FCS members and will be bowl eligible. Texas – San Antonio set an attendance record for an inaugural game with 56,743 fans. The Roadrunners’ HC Larry Coker won a national championship at Miami and holds a 60-15 record. Two key players for UTSA are transfers from Oklahoma State, DT Aghaad Mabry and OG Patrick Hoog.
USA is coached by Joey Jones, who won big in High School and at Birmingham Southern College, before coming to South Alabama. The Jaguars were17-0 in 09 and 10 but were not recognized by the NCAA as a varsity program. Last year their all-time record moved to 19-0 before losing to North Carolina State 35-13 and ended the 2011 season of preparation for FCS competition with a 6-4 record. USA is led by a couple of transfers from Alabama, Darius McKeller(OG) and BJ Scott(DB).
