*Bunn Sports predicts Alabama to be the 2011 SEC West Champion
Alabama is thought to be a contender yet again for the national championship. But are they really? No starting quarterback has been named as of yet, and while both of the contenders are very talented, neither has significant experience in a competitive SEC environment. That fact will test the Tide this year.
The good news for ‘Bama fans is this team is hungry. Losses to South Carolina, LSU, and Auburn by last year’s talented team left something to be desired. The schedule sets up a little better this year with the two biggest games, Arkansas and LSU, both played at Bryant- Denny Stadium. But, it’s the SEC, and anything can happen.
This is how I see Alabama’s 2011 season shaking out:
Sept 3 – Kent State – Win 44-7
Sept 10 – @Penn State – Win 12-10
Sept 17 – North Texas – Win 53-6
Sept 24 – Arkansas – Win 31-28
Oct 1 – @Florida – Loss 21-20
Oct 8 – Vanderbilt – Win 20-10
Oct 15 – @Ole Miss – Win 22-17
Oct 22 – Tennessee – Win 17-10
Oct 29 – Off
Nov 5 – LSU – Win 26-24
Nov 12 – @Mississippi State – Win 25-21
Nov 19 – Georgia Southern – Win 57-3
Nov 26 – @Auburn – Win 20-13
I think Nick Saban’s team does not make it through the 2011 season undefeated but does earn a trip to Atlanta to play Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. I don’t necessarily think Florida has a better squad than Alabama this year (on paper the Crimson Tide look better than anyone). I just believe that after a major matchup against Arkansas, the Tide could be in for a letdown, and Gainesville at night is not the place for anything less than one hundred percent. Another stellar season for the Crimson Tide is on the way. Stay tuned to see if I have them winning in Atlanta and going to the BCS Championship.
