Jacob Bunn's 2011 Ole Miss Football Preview
Posted on May 31, 2011 by Jacob Bunn
Predicted 2011 Record: 4-8 (0-8)
Things seem to be going south right now for the Ole Miss football program. Houston Nutt was hired before the 2008 season, and his teams produced 9-4 records the first two years of his tenure. Then last year, things took a turn for the worst. The Rebels finished 4-8 (1-7 in the SEC) in 2010.
One mistake Ole Miss can correct from last season is not starting with a loss to a team in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division II). So, with five other legitimate national contenders in the SEC West, we shall see how far the Rebels can go.
This is how I see Ole Miss’ 2011 season shaking out:
Sept 3 – BYU (Win 32-31)
Sept 10 – Southern Illinois (Win 45-10)
Sept 17 – @Vanderbilt (Loss 13-10)
Sept 24 – Georgia (Loss 24-14)
Oct 1 – @Fresno State (Win 24-20)
Oct 8 – Off
Oct 15 – Alabama (Loss 22-17)
Oct 22 – Arkansas (Loss 31-24)
Oct 29 – @Auburn (Loss 27-17)
Nov 5 – @Kentucky (Loss 24-21)
Nov 12 – Louisiana Tech (Win 34-16)
Nov 19 – LSU (Loss 14-13)
Nov 26 – Mississippi State (Loss 30-21)
Ole Miss’ schedule should be populated with close games, but the problem in my opinion is that they will come up short in most of those matchups. From what is listed above, they get wins over quality, albeit non-BCS, non-conference opponents BYU and Fresno State. But, the Rebels do not win one single game in conference, and I think most Ole Miss fans will be unhappy with Houston Nutt if such a season takes place.
