The Top Ten Must See SEC Football Games of 2011
Posted on May 26, 2011 by Jacob Bunn
1. LSU at Alabama (November 5th – Bryant-Denny Stadium)
This is the game that so many have pegged as not only a decisive contest in the SEC West, but for the national championship. Whichever team is standing at the end of this one may very well make it to New Orleans. Les Miles has beaten Nick Saban twice, and Saban has beaten Miles twice. Do you really need any more reasons to tune in on this November afternoon?
2. South Carolina at Georgia (September 10th – Sanford Stadium)
Right out of the gate on the second Saturday of the season, a premiere SEC East matchup will take place. Many believe the two front runners for that division are Georgia and South Carolina, Last year’s defensive struggle was won by the Gamecocks. Both teams will come in knowing this early season game could mean everything.
3. Arkansas at Alabama (September 24th – Bryant Denny Stadium)
This September game features two teams that think they both have a shot at a special season. Arkansas has not beaten Alabama since Nick Saban arrived, but this could be the year. Taking down the Tide, though, in Tuscaloosa is not a challenge many programs want to face.
4. Arkansas at LSU (November 25th – Tiger Stadium)
If Alabama stumbles, and Mississippi State or Auburn is not in the picture, this will probably be for all of the marbles in the SEC West. Arkansas has had quite a bit of success against LSU in recent years, and they are certainly capable of pulling off the win in Baton Rouge.
5. Florida at South Carolina (November 12th – Williams-Bryce Stadium)
This end of the year contest is sure to mean something in the race for the SEC East. Even with two weeks of football remaining after the week of this game, this is the last conference matchup for both teams.
6. LSU at Mississippi State (September 15th – Scott Field)
This one is on a Thursday night, it’s in Starville, MS, and in all likelihood LSU will be a top ten program. Dan Mullen has brought the Bulldog program a long way since he arrived, but this could be the historic win that MSU has been waiting for.
7. Georgia vs Florida (October 29th – EverBank Field)
This old rivalry will probably always be a must see game during any SEC season. This year should be no different. Both of these teams should arrive with their aspirations of making to Atlanta still intact.
8. Alabama at Mississippi State (November 12th – Scott Field)
This could be a very dangerous game for Alabama. Coach Saban has had his teams ready to play against Mississippi State the last three years. But this season, with the game being played in Starkville, and it being scheduled the week after the Tide plays LSU, things could get interesting.
9. Florida at LSU (October 8th – Tiger Stadium)
This annual contest is always something to see. Most years it would be higher in our countdown, but Florida will be enduring a transition season. So, the question will be whether they can keep up with the Tigers.
10. Alabama at Auburn (November 26th – Jordan-Hare Stadium)
It’s the Iron Bowl. Is that not all that needs to be said? On top of it being college football’s most intense rivalry, this game has played a significant role in determining the national champion the last two years. So, who is to say that that will change this season?
